FIRST (Flagstaff's Informed Response Sharing Team) is a collaborative community organization dedicated to strengthening mental wellness, reducing stigma, and improving access to supports across the Flagstaff region. Working alongside community partners, FIRST provides accessible, client-centred mental wellness services that promote resilience, connection, and hope for individuals and families living in rural communities.
Position Summary
FIRST is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and community-minded Mental Wellness Counsellor to join our team on a one-year contract. The successful candidate will provide short-term counselling and mental wellness supports to individuals experiencing a variety of life challenges, helping improve access to care in the Flagstaff region.
Counselling services are delivered through a flexible model that includes in-person, virtual, and telephone appointments, with some evening availability required to meet client needs.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strengths-based, client-centred counselling to individuals across the lifespan.
Deliver counselling services in person, online, and by telephone.
Develop collaborative care plans that support client goals and wellbeing.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation.
Work collaboratively with community partners to coordinate referrals and wraparound supports.
Participate in case consultation and program evaluation activities.
Promote mental wellness, resilience, and early intervention throughout the community.
Qualifications
Applicants must be registered and in good standing with the appropriate professional regulatory body in Alberta.
Preferred qualifications include:
Master of Social Work (MSW)
Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology
Master's Degree in Psychology
Or another related graduate degree in a regulated mental health profession
Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience providing individual counselling in a community or clinical setting.
Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Understanding of rural communities and the unique barriers to accessing mental health services.
Training or experience in agriculture-informed (Ag-informed) mental health supports is considered a strong asset.
Experience working with diverse populations and individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, and life transitions.

Position Summary
FIRST is seeking a motivated and community-minded Men's Shed Coordinator to support the development and implementation of a new Men's Shed program in the Flagstaff region.
The Men's Shed movement provides a welcoming, informal space where men can connect, share skills, work on meaningful projects, and build friendships while supporting their mental, physical, and social wellbeing. The coordinator will help establish an inclusive environment that encourages participation, volunteerism, lifelong learning, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the start-up and operation of the Men's Shed program.
Recruit, welcome, and support participants and volunteers throughout the community and encourage participation.
Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where members feel connected and valued.
Plan and coordinate activities that reflect the interests and skills of participants.
Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community members.
Assist with volunteer coordination, communications, and basic program administration.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience in community development, human services, recreation, volunteer coordination, or a related field.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently while engaging and motivating others.
Experience facilitating groups or community programs is an asset.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of rural communities and community resources is considered an asset.
